Who am I?

Doesn't everyone want to know the answer to this question?  As a person, are you defined by your job, your career, your schooling, your spouse, your children?  Or is it something more?  Well, for me its all of the above.  I am wife, mother of two daughters (intelligent, talented, and beautiful; thank you very much), a working woman (both in and outside the home - I've been in configuration management for 20+ years), big sister to two siblings (and let me tell you this is a big job!), aunt, daughter, and so much more.  Hopefully, some of the information you see on this page will tell you who I am and who I want to be.  Sometimes they are the same, sometimes they aren't.  Hopefully, I am always striving to grow and meld the two together.

In December 2004 I resigned my career position with L3 Communications to become the full time Program Director of our family's Karate School.  It has been a wonderful experience.  I am thoroughly happy with my decision to leave corporate America and take on the responsibilities of CEO, CFO, COO, etc of our business.  What a growth experience it is and so rewarding to work for yourself and in a business you believe in at the very core of your being. Universal Kempo Karate Schools Association has changed mine and Brad's lives immeasurably.  Brad is testing for his Third Degree Black belt the summer of 2008 and I am testing for my 1st degree black belt as well after having received my Student Black Belt the Summer of 2007.   I have learned a lot from Universal Kempo both on the business side of things and the martial arts side and wouldn't trade any of it.

I am daughter of Thomas Roy Holland and Alice Faye Young Holland.  Granddaughter of Miller Garland Young and Versel Jo Spell Young and Emogene Thomas Lloyd and Roy Rodney Holland.  My ethnic background is mutt (comprised of Scottish, Irish, German, and who knows what else.)  Several years ago I discovered a connection to the Scottish Clan Young through my maternal grandparent line and have learned a little about that.  Here's the official web site of the Clan.

The world of reality has limits; the world of imagination is boundless.

--Jean-Jacques Rousseau

I don't know what your destiny will be, but one thing I do know: the only ones among you who will be really happy are those who have sought and found how to serve.
--Albert Schweitzer
The thought manifests as the word;
The word manifests as the deed;
The deed develops into habit;
And habit hardens into character.

So watch the thought and its ways with care,
And let it spring from love;
Born out of concern for all beings.

--Buddha
The most wasted of all days is one without laughter

These are just a few quotes that describe my basic philosophy on life.   I am a poet, a crafter, a builder, a designer, and a dreamer. My imagination swims most of the hours of the day (and night because many times I dream of the things I'd like to create) with ideas of projects to do. ….Landscaping projects, home designs, interior decorating, Christmas ornaments, woodworking projects, gardening, etc.

Many times, different members of my family have said I missed my calling and should have become an architect or an interior designer. I do dearly love to take a thing and mold it, shape it, build it, design it, change it in some way and create a new thing full of art and love. Whether that means taking a blank sheet of paper and writing a poem about my feelings, designing a new house, or creating a landscape design. Or, actually using physical objects to create crafts, I always receive joy from the process as well as the result. Every Christmas for about 6 years now, I have created ornaments for the people I work with. Each year is a different design, craft or idea. Its always fun to run through all the possibilities and create something unique. I also love to design homes and have probably drawn a good two dozen or more over the years. Here are a few I've done.
